Missing: The Malaysian warmth
Delayed flight. Long flight. But I am glad to be back home.
I like Korea. People are generally very friendly. The weather is cold and nice. I like it cold. But nothing beats being back home.
Queued up to buy the budget taxi ticket. Then queued up again for the taxi. I can see some are not sure where to queue, only to be rudely pointed to the back by the usher.
Finally my turn to board the taxi.
Driver tries to put my luggage into the boot. Tries a few times but he’s not able to get it in. Then he tells me that my luggage is too big and too heavy. He says I’ll need to upgrade to a bigger taxi.
What the…?!?
I told him it’s not heavy. I was not charged for overweight luggage by the airlines. Airline didn’t tell me it’s over-sized too.
The luggage would have fit into the boot nicely if the driver did not go modify his taxi and added a gas tank into the car boot.
I’m tired. I told him I’m not going to upgrade. I said I’m fine with the luggage with me at the back seat.
The driver was clearly unhappy. He started to mumble and grumble. But in the end, he agreed.
First two minutes of the ride was just the driver grumbling. After that, silence.
Welcome to Malaysia…
What a ‘wonderful’ first impression this incident would have given to tourists. And is it any wonder that Malaysians prefer Uber?
