Activism gone wrong

Google* defines activism as:

activism: the policy or action of using vigorous campaigning to bring about political or social change.

Sometimes I think we’ve gone overboard with this “political correctness” and “activism” thing.

People are becoming overly sensitive. What used to be a “simple” statements suddenly become one that insults or incites anger, etc… Suddenly, terms and actions that we used to grow up with are considered insensitive and should not be used.

What happened to moderation, understanding, mutual respect or even… Common sense?

Now you get businesses that will not serve people due to their religious beliefs (religious freedom).

Or that using orang utan in banner advertisement is considered exploitation.

There’s now even emoji that embraces diversity… Come on, for goodness sake… It’s emoji / smileys.

I do believe we need to be sensitive and be politically correct. But I don’t think it should go overboard. Otherwise, very soon, even making video documentaries of animals in the wild will be outlawed as it will be considered invasion of privacy, etc…
