About the Huawei P9
Personally, I feel Samsung Galaxy S2 was the starting point for Samsung. The Samsung Galaxy S2 basically put Samsung in the field as one of the Android phone makers to watch out for. No doubt it still felt unpolished back then — both the looks and the UI. Things did feel a bit “clumsy”. But it was value for money at that time — One of the best processors, microSD support and that really great Super AMOLED screen.
And that is how I feel about the Huawei P9. It’s a superb phone. The camera is good. The phone feels great. And I am really in love with that fingerprint sensor. The fingerprint is fast and accurate.
But at the same time, the Huawei P9 still feels unpolished at times.
The one time when a colleague wanted to see how great the phone is (she’s been hearing a lot about the phone), the P9 had to lag at that very minute — It took a few seconds to get from camera to gallery. I don’t think my colleague has gotten over the “Huawei P9 lags” mindset till today.
There are also other little things like..
Why there are hardly any OTA updates. I know there are updates available but one will need to manually download and install them. Why is Huawei not pushing it Over-The-Air (OTA)?
Or this “puzzling” limitation…
There are also little bits that Huawei have added and I found them to be nice… Like how notification is displayed in a timeline. There is also the magazine lock screen that displays different images each time you unlock. The 3.5mm audio port.
The Huawei P9 is a phone that is really value for money.
I am excited to see what Huawei can churn out over the next few years. I just hope they can keep the price point low and perhaps move away from the iOS-like interface. I still like my Android to come with the app drawer. And who knows… Maybe Huawei can work with Cyanogen to have an official Cyanogen OS for their future phones?
