Almost bought the LG G6
The LG G6 is without a doubt, one impressive smartphone as I have shared earlier.
All the more tempting when I saw one seller selling it at about RM1.8k (about USD420)…
It has the traditional design that I like — flat screen and fingerprint sensor at the back. It’s got microSD support. As a bonus, it even comes with IP68 rating.
But the LG G6 is not a perfect phone (based on solely my PERSONAL preferences). It does not have AMOLED screen. It’s sporting a 2016 processor for a phone made in 2017. But at that price, I am willing to make some compromises.
I also found that editing screenshot might require 1-2 extra steps over phones like Huawei P9. And for a phone that had “game mode”, I’m surprised it didn’t have additional “gaming features” like screen recorder that was found on the Note 7. Still… I can live with all that.
However, the last straw that broke the camel’s back was when I found out today that the phone does not have LED notification. To many, this is not an issue. Many other phones don’t have this. And the G6 does have “always on display” to display notifications. However, I’m not a fan of any “always on” display. I am very likely to turn it off on the G6, just like what I did with the Note7. But turning that off on the G6 would mean I have no way of telling if I have any notifications, unless I turn on the screen.
As much as I love to get the G6 (and I have to say again, RM1.8k for a phone that was released just a few months ago is a very good deal considering most flagships now cost RM3k), it’s just a case of too many compromises for me.
I would rather wait a while longer. Or worst case, just get the cheapest decent phone like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, which costs less than half the price!
