Political scene in Malaysia
I don’t like to talk about politics on my site, partly because this is a really sensitive topic. Not many people can really talk about it with an open mind and heart.
Anyway, I figured with GE14 just around the corner, maybe I will just share what I feel about the whole political situation in the country…
1. “Coalition party” is NOT the way forward. It does not help with the “long term” vision. Existing “coalition parties” are made up of different parties with different ideologies. These parties have different goals and ultimately, these parties have “tunnel vision”. Each party within the coalition is only interesting in fighting for what they want. They are only interested in their own agenda. If they are serious about moving forward and being one, why not just form one real (and BIG) party?
2. We are severely lacking in quality candidates. Look at the stuff that some of our politicians have said. Some are downright disgraceful. Yet, they get elected term after term. We need new blood. We need younger candidates who understand the current situation and who can react better to the new world. Just look at France and Canada.
3. And for the federal oppositions… Out of so many parties in the coalition and you guys don’t have a decent candidate for Prime Minister (PM)? Don’t give us the nonsense that “We will present the candidate after we win the GE”. The voters want to know who is likely to be the PM. We will then vote accordingly.
Hint: Say goodbye to my vote if it’s anyone of these: Anwar, Wan Azizah, Azmin Ali, Mahathir, Mukhriz, Muhyidin, Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng.
To me, all of them are “tainted” in their own way. They carry a baggage that makes them not worthy. Hopefully, this will also get the opposition thinking: Are these the only people you can offer?
4. Goodies and handouts. Is this the right thing to do? I’ve read reports of handouts given out to certain groups of people when attending functions — giving out things like rice, kangkung, smartphones, etc… Personally, I don’t think this is a good idea. There may be voters who get swayed by such thing. Isn’t that something amounting to bribery/ corruption?
